Who We Are

Skis4Kashmir, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed by skiers and students from Colorado. With the help of the Guru Trust Foundation in Kashmir, India, we are working to promote ecologically and economically sustainable development as well as social equity in the historically war-torn region by introducing the joys of skiing to Kashmiri children of all backgrounds. The mission of Skis 4 Kashmir is to redistribute the excess of the US ski industry to Kashmiri slopes and offer ski instruction and environmental education to our participants.

We at Skis4kashmir believe that participation in sport can improve the quality of life for individuals and communities, promote social inclusion, improve health, counter anti-social behavior, raise individual self-esteem and confidence, and broaden the horizons of all participants.

Skis 4 Kashmir is an experiential learning program for Kashmiri children, most of whom have never had the chance to enjoy their mountainous backyard because of war poverty. The program will focus not only on skiing, but wilderness travel and survival, basic first aid, environmental awareness and natural history. Teamwork and leadership activities will also be a critical part of the program.

Where We Work

Kashmir is the disputed Himalayan region between India, China and Pakistan. In the rare and brief respites from violence, the mountains have been a haven for all.

However, these towering peaks,  sweeping valleys and draping slopes are largely out of reach for the residents who lack the appropriate equipment to venture out into them.  Heavy snowfall, steep pitches and majestic vistas make for some of the best skiing in the world; but, political instability has kept the ski industry from developing…until now.

Help Us Reach Our Goal

After collecting donated ski and snowboard equipment for months, Skis 4 Kashmir is ready to roll. We are now turning our focus to fundraising.  With your cash donations we will be able to ensure that the children of Kashmir are able to experience the mountains at no cost to them.  The donations will cover the shipping of equipment as well as housing, food, and transportation for the children.  Any excess funds will go directly to the Guru foundation to help them in their quest to rebuild Kashmir.

Sincerely,

Charlie Noone
